Sleeping Through the Alarm
The sun is anew, the tides ebb and flow afresh and somehow, I seemed to have grasped such vibrancy and betided events that would constitute the dawn of a new month. To begin, there is no originality in my waking up late this morning. These impromptu mornings of belated sleep keeps the clip from my cliché but blemishes my unspoiled perception of slumberous mornings. Nevertheless, this morning I didn’t hear my alarm which was wound around three times, enough for me to usually wake up.
When I did wake up like two times before in the night, my eyes opened instantly and looking straight at the time I knew I was late. Wondering what to do I headed to have a quick shower, brushed my teeth and then got myself ready for work. There was no time in the morning to have something to eat so I just figured I would buy something before heading to work, this is where the prodigal saga begins…
Heading out to catch my bus with a minute to spare I splashed on my ‘Chrome’ perfume as per usual each morning. Now that I have a vastness of perfume I don’t get stingy with its use, I just use it everyday and whenever. Still, because it is a long-lasting fragrance I feel that my topping up isn’t needed near the end of the day but then again, I mostly feel like my shirt is covering up the fragrance.
Laptop Daydreams
Anyway, catching the bus to the train station I jumped onto the train in which I had my customary sleep on the train to work. These days I need that extra bit of sleep to keep me regular. If it wasn’t for a long train trip either way I wouldn’t be able to catch up on that two hours of sleep I miss every night due to these memoirs.
However, if I was to buy myself a laptop and write for two hours on the train, I wouldn’t only be benefiting that very night but I’ll also be able to take my depiction to the next level. Writing to and from work means that I will have much more philosophy and forethought in the morning as well as up-to-date chronology on the way home. There is no doubt that a laptop will benefit my lifestyle greatly.
It will ease up an hour here and there and granted I take it with me almost everywhere, it will free up plenty of my day. However, carrying around a portable diary has its disadvantages which could be seen either way. Overuse would be the main disadvantage as I’d be turning it on every five minutes to write down a thought. Then there is my being able to count and note every single penny that goes through my hands which again is fraught work but in the end it is worthwhile to my temperament.
A Muffin and a Secret Alphabet
Arriving at Wynyard Station I walked around confused as to what to buy myself. There wasn’t much of a delighting selection of food so finally getting fed up (Pun) I headed to Macdonald’s where I bought a sausage and egg muffin burger. This was the only food I ate for the whole day until I got back home, late I might add. For lunch I didn’t have anything to eat because I was too busy window shopping but I did pick up a drink on the way up to work.
Let me also just take this short time to note about my writing pointers in my little notebook at work. Whenever I get a thought I write it when alone at work. To make it more secure and secretive I tend to mostly write it in my secret alphabet that I created for myself and Dirk in year 7. I remember creating the alphabet together including numbers and then me testing Derek each day in class to see how much he’d remembered.
These lessons taught me the language efficiently and sadly, I don’t think Derek has a clue today what one letter would mean. Who is the more peculiar here, my oddity for remembering the secretive language after so many years or Derek’s inability to remember due to his potting up days. Anyway, I write in this concealed alphabet just incase anyone walks in on me and decides to take a gander at what could otherwise be incriminating.
I only write of what happens in my day so that I can augment my provisions of memory unto these pages. So there you have it, my secret code, if only I could write it here in these pages. One day in the not too distant future I’ll get my hands on that computer program which lets me create my own font and once I have that in my control anything is possible.
Mail Run With Najla
Being somewhat late in the morning due to my dawdling to get something to eat, I grabbed the mail which was still downstairs. I gather that Najla has come to depend on me getting the mail now. Najla also depends on me to walk around the City on errands which I prefer. Because I am the elder at work by one week she looks up to me a little bit and I definitely take the reigns of that role by planning our workload for the day. Najla is still getting her feet and trying to learn from being thrown more into the deep end than myself.
Anyway, for the first half an hour before we even thought of handing out the mail I worked on filing as Najla worked on one of her briefs. Since we had now made a plan to be efficient with the mail by doing it together, we have had more time on our hands. Doing the mail together was somewhat of a trial today, a trial which turned out great. The incoming mail only took Najla and I forty five minutes to complete which is great efficiency.
A Doorway Moment With Calla
Heading to the photocopier to copy some investigation reports I bumped into the tall Scottish girl again but as always in the mornings, I was reticently sought. Najla and I seem to be the only vocal people at work and that stems to the fact that we both have croaky throats in the morning. In no way is my coughing created by nerves but I think it has something to do with settling down at work completely.
When lunch has finished and I’ve had something to eat my coughing usually vanishes but thus far, there’s never been a day where I’ve spent its entirety coughing. Anyway, at some time when I was in the kitchen and walking through the door to head back inside I bumped into Calla who was heading out the door. Being polite I held the door open for her as she made the promising venture to say hello to me.
Saying hello is nothing new at work but she said it with promise, with deliverance. As I held the door open for her I couldn’t help but to think those words of endearment from the Scottish girl about Calla being a good sort was because they had both discussed some sort of involvement including me. I would like to think that Calla has been speaking about me or at least floating thoughts my way as I seemed to feel a sense of connection in the ether’s of her veneration whilst she walked past.
Whilst in my own little world, whizzing past the reverie that would eventually bring Calla and I together, I failed to take into account someone else walking through the doorway as I closed it. On the last second I noticed the guy walking towards the door and done as best I could to keep the door open. It was funny when he noted my chivalry for the woman and my willingness to throw down my jacket over a puddle for her but when it came to the opposite sex I was without favors.
Calla walked joyously giggling into the bathroom as I then had to hold the door for a further three people. As Jana walked past she noted “You have another job here now do you” and having a little laugh I walked back to my section and began on the rest of the day.
Cab Charge Errands
When the morning mail was complete I completed my first brief for the day as Najla also began on another of her briefs. With the turn of lunch heading our way Najla planned to head out at midday and I planned for the both of us to get stuck down in filing for when the other half of us went out for lunch. In the time before lunch I was sent downstairs around 11:00 a.m. to grab some cab charge books from Greta.
Swinging around my little identification card on my joyous way down I felt good to be running errant. Initially I went down to see Greta earlier in the morning but I talked to the Scottish girl down on level one who was a temp. Unfortunately she wasn’t in any position to hand me cab charge books so she called Jana to inform her and then I was sent back upstairs to wait around another hour.
Greta was in a board meeting but when I headed back downstairs at 11:00 a.m. I was able to retrieve two cab charge books. Near the end of the day when Jana sent me out on another errand she remarked how I was an absolute legend for not bowing to pressure and keeping a level and ascertained head. That is me when I head out on little errands, I never lose my cool, always look professional on my endeavors and get the job done, always.
A Desk Day of Filing
When Najla headed out for lunch (Which wasn’t too far, to the kitchen) I got stuck into filing and for the second day in a row, a huge amount of filing was achieved despite it being forwarded more to our piles. There are days when I am constantly at the photocopier and then there are days when I’m stuck at my desk, today was a desk day.
There is the photocopying day and the errand day which are both roaming adventures. Then there is the desk day for catching up on briefs of a similar environment where filing is the key to keeping a hostile environment from sprouting. Today was mostly a filing day as everything else was dealt out in tiny portions.
