Winter and Its Moods
How strange these eccentric months of winter with their mutating oddities ascribe me. From the first week of winter being the coldest, changing dramatically to a more passable zephyr of frigid breeze. The fickle days of winter have brought periodic showers, warm looking days that are much colder than expected and today, a sun-shower that turned nasty. Winter has many shades of revolt and when bliss seemed almost an odd delight, the true visage did succumb to his wrought pranks.
Summer was predictable as was the fall of Autumn. Now, as the uncertainty of my life unfolds, so to is the fashion of winter. Curious minds do read the tides and only susceptible thought cares to unravel the entangled uncertainty of winter and only then will I have the chance to understand the chaotic flow of life.
Sick Since Friday
Hello, how are you, sorry I left you in all sorts of confusion on Sunday. However, I did have to get myself to sleep earlier than usual and relax upon my bed watching television. From around 9:00 p.m. I began watching ‘Speed’ as this movie does have some potential to be a great. Concerned about my spinning headache and running nose, the best bet was to rest for the next two hours until I finally got to sleep at 11:00 p.m. and slept like a baby.
Just a quick cap, I’ve been sick for the past nine or more days. I’m the type of person that only gets sick once or twice a year but you can bet that when I do get sick, it’s in a big way. However, this is the biggest I’ve ever been sick, having a host of problems.
Starting with my gripping throat on Friday that developed into Sunday, I was coughing and blowing chunks of snot out of my nose hourly. The throat infection only got worse through the days instead of better and now I feel that because I didn’t care to see a doctor out of pride, thinking it would cost too much and passivity, I am cursed with still being sick.
Nearing this weekend just past, I started to get conjunctivitis in the right eye and as I thought it was only a passing fad, it ended up sticking with me until this morning. However, the conjunctivitis has passed now as there was no sticking of my eyelids together or blotchy view in the morning. Rather, there was a touch of crust and that was it.
The Ear Pop
Another problem that has turned out to concern me is how my ears have been blocking over the past few days. One day on the weekend, I walked to the bathroom and blew my nose, not too violently. In the midst of my jaded feeling I heard my right ear let out a huge tweeter whiz, like I taped the modem connection sound and then played it into my ears full ball from my obnoxious sounding stereo.
You can understand that this noise killed and what’s more, feeling as if there was a touch of water in my ear (Or it felt like it), my ear felt like it had imploded or exploded to pressure from my nostrils. Having a sense of disquietude, my ear drum was pounding emptily, like it was a big hall in my ear where I could hear a dimmed sound of the sea. At the time I was standing at the toilet and after this huge strain to my ear, I felt uncomfortably dizzy.
Stupid in my arrogance to stand up, I knew that with my pale face and wandering eyes that weren’t focusing on anything, I had to lie down quickly. Therefore, I headed straight into my bedroom and rested my head on the pillow. For the next half an hour I done just this as my head was still in a spin and some time later, when I held my nose and blew again filling up my cheeks with air, the shrieking nose came again but not as loud. This caused my sinuses to clear and my ears to open slightly but from what I was told at work today, I was lucky that I can still hear today.
That huge shock of noise could have caused my ears to pop, causing partial deafness. You could understand I was distraught with what I gathered was a lucky escape but I’m still concerned about my impartial hearing from my left earlobe. For the last three days in a row, it has been blocked up, dimming the surrounding noise like a filter. This ear hasn’t showed signs of relenting so I’m concerned as to when my ear will finally pop and if I will need a doctor’s help or opinion. That is the story up to date and believe me, I’ve been concerned enough about it to write of my pains and agonies.
A Long Weekend Ahead
Feeling abandoned to the adaptation and the willingness in this diary, I have only myself and this damn cold to blame. Again, I am behind on much chronology knowing that I can’t forcefully accelerate my depiction but I do show graceful gratitude for this Monday impending.
From what I hear today and the irony of Najla asking me when our next public holiday was, Ottilie came over to our desk minutes later and noted “I hope you guys know, we’ve got a holiday on Monday”. Like words sung to our ears and mine half deaf, I still cheered amply nonetheless.
With this extra day upon chronology, I shall be rewarded and that reward shall come at a time where hopefully, I no longer hold this sickness that twofold affects me.
Cockroach in the Shower
Just quickly now before I begin mainstream catch up on chronology, let me note two little accessories to the exemplary. Some time on the week, I think it was on Friday, my sixth sense made me ask myself “I wonder if there’s any more cockroaches in the bathroom”. Starting up the shower with this thought in the back of my mind, sure enough, I saw a small cockroach crawling across the side wall, starting to get weighed down by the fogging walls.
“The game has begun again” I thought to myself with a complacent grin, “Don’t worry I’ll get you”. Sure enough, from the shower, I cupped falling water into my hand and directing my hurl at the cockroach, I tipped him once or twice with water. Crawling his way towards the corner where the basin was, I chanced another gush of water at him, causing him to clumsily fall into the basin.
Making haste with my nakedly dripping body, I quickly turned on the hot water as he tried slowly to scurry away up the basin. However, his luck ran out quick as I plugged up the basin and soon enough, hot steaming water began to build, shaking the side of the basin just enough to cause him to fall in. Turning off the water soon after, I watched him fry as he was upturned and leaving him there to dwell in his scorching death, I carried on with my warm shower.
Shawn’s New Bike
Another comment to decidedly chat about is my last conversation with Shawn when he was informing me about his Saturday night with Ralf, obviously on Sunday. One portion that I forgot to mention was how Shawn told me that he bought a new bike off Binh which is obviously a stolen bike bought cheap. Shawn bought the bike for $130 and felt sure enough to part with the racer that’s still sitting just to the side of my front door.
Having no real use for his racer, I asked if he would mind my taking off his rims or tubes in which he seemed to have no problem. Speaking of bikes, I think it’s about time that I started planning into the dream of getting my racer back on the road again. Now that I’m fully into work and have confidence that I’ll be there for a long time, I have the best opportunity to spend $100 to $200 so I can fix up my bike and get back out there.
That could have been my escape on Saturday night when I had nothing to do or an aerobic journey on Sunday’s where I know I want to build up my legs and enjoy doing so. Yep, as soon as this splurge on clothing is spent, I shall entail some time upon this salvageable desire.
Walking Up to Chevy’s
Getting now to what seems more burdensome than praiseworthy, time sure does distinguish such aspiration. However, as I must speak about the rest of my Friday night and already having talked of Saturday and Sunday, the same situation as to last week arises. Anyway, starting from the beginning, it comes when I was making my walk alone up to Chevy’s. Leaving behind the Catholic Club after spending my last couple of minutes with Johnnie, I decided that the night would have left a worthlessness inside of me had I not at least traveled to the doors of Chevy’s.
On the way past the Mall I was a couple of steps behind a guy and a couple more behind two girls that looked pretty nice. My objective was to walk past the guy avoiding him and make amends with the women for what I did not achieve with the guy. However, the guy started chatting to me as I walked near him and feeling obliged, I cursed my luck and answered back.
Seeming like an alright guy, he told me that he was heading up to Chevy’s, pissed as a fart from the Catholic Club. As the two girls walked over to the payphone near the taxi area the both of us kept each other company up the lonely road to Chevy’s. The breeze was numbing to say the least and you could sense ice particles building on your fogging breath. The guy was aged around 28, kind of resembling the characteristics of Kieran, the one who used to go out with Kiley.
In a way, his wanting to head up into Chevy’s together was a good thing as I didn’t want to walk in there alone and then walk back out, cheated of my money. “I just have to go and get money out of the bank” he uttered and as I noted I didn’t want to enter Chevy’s yet, I started walking in his direction.
Uati Is Out of Jail
To my shocked surprise, walking up the now widened streets that are still blocked from the road because of construction work, I had seen a face otherwise not seen for a long time. Uati was walking down the street and from what I had heard from people who had seen him fresh out of jail, he was supposed to be one person not to mess with. Walking past me, I called him back eagerly as he let out a smile, probably thinking to himself “Man things have changed around here in the time I’ve been gone” upon noticing how I now dress.
Shaking his hand and having a chat, he told me how he’s been out for a couple of weeks now and as usual, enjoying the pump of Chevy’s. What surprised me more was how later in the night I saw Uati on center-stage, dancing with one of his Samoan friends. Jonas at work was right to note that it was laden with Samoans, probably due to Uati. Lyssa was also right to note that there wasn’t much women there for the night, probably also having something to do with the Samoans there.
