March 16, 2026. Evening, at a cafe and then at the gym.
Turning a web page into an app
The other night I did some vibe coding. I had already created a gym app, a simple page for writing down my gym routines, and then I asked Claude AI to convert it to an app. It created a PWA and told me to link it to a website that hosts these apps. I did that, and I had an icon and everything built in.
It was pretty good. I can do whatever I want with it. I have to rotate the screen to get a horizontal view, because the vertical view is a bit difficult to scroll on, but it feels good. You can input your daily gym routine while you’re at the gym.
Showing a mate
Today I was hanging out with a mate and we were talking about me going to the gym.
“Oh, I made a new gym app, bro, have a look at this.”
I tapped the custom gym app icon on my phone, which connects to the website where my PWA is loaded.
“Look, it’s an app to write down your gym routines. It’s got a history of my gym sessions. The really good thing about this is that you can pull up your personal best. For example, I’m at the gym and I can’t remember how much I was doing for bench press, so I can pull it up on my phone, and it goes through all my previous records and comes up with my best. You can isolate it and get your best just for chest or just for legs.”
He had a bit of an unconvinced smirk on his face.
“I made this in twenty minutes. It’s vibe coding, bro. Do you know what that is?”
“What’s vibe coding?”
“You use AI to generate a website for you based on an idea. You go on and talk to AI like you would write something to yourself, say what you want to build, and AI will go and build it for you. You can make an app.”
He doesn’t know how it works and he’s not really convinced yet, but he could see that I had a gym app and I’ve got it on my phone now.
The first thought of sharing it
Later at the gym, my first set was leg extensions, and I had my personal app open. I might make it into an app that other people can download, to see how many people will download it. It’s a cool little app. If I focus on it and fix it up a little, it’ll be nice for other people to use. You could have daily quotes on there, for example.
