Late For The Train

Upon that enlightenment, I shall begin now on Thursday’s little episode of words. Just having had fish to eat, my eyes are starting to dwell upon a slumber but I shall sustain this inheritance of words and calm my will to sleep for now. Thursday morning, I finally heard my little alarm wake me but for the sake of being tired, I rested my head back on the pillow for a couple of minutes. Thinking in my head “Yeah, I’ll wake up in a couple of minutes”, I drifted off and didn’t wake up until mum came downstairs and alarmed me that it was 6:30 a.m.

Doing all the normal things of a morning, with my being rushed, I decided to slow things down and wait around for the later bus. Nevertheless, calm was deceiving as I left to catch my bus and ended up being a minute too late. Waiting around for the later bus I usually caught that got me to the station with only seconds to jump on the train, I counted my lucky stars as I boarded. However, ill-fate played its course as I arrived to the train station late enough that I couldn’t catch my usual late train.

Knowing that I had ten minutes to wait around I hiked up to the bank, walking around the tarpon and turrets that were for the roadwork on the new one-way Queen Street. There were three rowdy Bikie type guys walking up the main road and screaming off their drunken heads. They didn’t end up bothering anyone apart from their obnoxious voices and as I made my way to the teller machine, I withdrew around $590.

Where Is My Wallet

Heading back down to the station with a wad full of cash stretching the fabric of my wallet, I packed it well in my pocket, hoping I wouldn’t have another close encounter of losing it. Buying a copy of FHM for the trip to the City, I sat without view of a beautiful woman for most of the trip and apart from the girl who sat minding her own business next to me, there was nothing special.

Taking no nap for the whole trip to the City, a paid special care to my wallet being in my usual left jacket pocket. Seated on the left hand side of the train, my wallet was right next to the wall had it have fallen. There were a couple of centimeters distance from the wall and the chair where the metal arm swung the chair in the opposite direction and if my wallet was to fall right next to me, it had the ability of falling through a large gap at the back of the seat where it slides.

One station from jumping off, I done the usual routine of checking my pocket for the wallet and when I couldn’t feel anything but my pocket’s fabric, I started to get worried. Worry turned to anxiety when I checked to my side hoping that it landed right next to me but nothing was there. Cursing my misplaced luck, I looked through the gap on the side of the wall hoping that it might have fallen down the gap.

The guy behind me although around 40 years old looked as if he would have taken my wallet if he had the opportunity, something I feared. Nevertheless, my heart stopped its intense beating when I noticed my wallet, split open on the metal portion of the chairs movable back in the space next to the wall. Somehow, my wallet fell out and caught itself like a peg on a clothesline. Counting what lucky stars yet hadn’t fainted, I picked up my wallet and then with my stop almost near, jumped off and headed revitalized to work.

Najla Takes An Hour To Fax

Again, through the day, Najla done nothing but aggravate a growing concern. If there is one true comment about Najla at work, it’s that she loves to dawdle when it comes to much loathed tasks. Apart from the obvious negligence to the art of filing, Najla took over half an hour just to fax something today.

Faxing something isn’t that time consuming or hard at all and I’m not talking about actually photocopying the material, I’m just talking about writing up a fax cover letter and faxing it through. Writing up the cover sheet isn’t supposed to be time consuming as you only have to fill in a couple of blanks but because we were doing the mail and I’d asked Najla to help me with folding up some smaller mail into envelopes, she decided to decrease those chances.

Najla usually does the bigger things that have to go out as she loves using the typewriter for typing out the address. However, as she only had a touch of those big files and I had a horde to get through and with my time quickly exceeding expectancy, I was counting on her to lend a hand.

With me biting my tongue knowing that she was taking her time on purpose, I tried to be oblivious to her recreant impulse and went along quicker with my job. When the fax was complete Najla frustrated me more when she decided to mail memorandums in some internal mail envelopes instead of just placing them in a box so the mailroom can collect it.

There was no need or use for Najla to send those letters internally as mailroom would get them anyway so when received the people would probably be asking “What the fuck did it come in this package for”. Finally, with a couple of envelopes left, Najla offered to take some off my hand but not before saying “Are you still doing the mail”. I felt like saying “Yeah, because you just wasted an hour and didn’t bother to help me when I asked” but of course, that’s a bit over the top.

Thalia Says Let Her Do It

During the day, when Najla was out walkabouts in the office Thalia made a guest appearance in my section. Earlier in the day she noted how she could never find the files she’s looking for to which Najla still had two trolley’s full of Joselyn’s files she had to put away. Noting that I put away all of my files and most of David’s (As I had done for the day) she insisted “Don’t help Najla with her filing, let her do it”.

Basically this stretched the truth that Najla would either shape up or ship out and to my surprise, my estimation of her early retirement is now looking as ill-informed as all those people who thought after five weeks into the competition, Brisbane stood no chance for the finals. To this I held Thalia to her word, deciding not to help Najla out with the filing and although she didn’t touch it for the day causing more animosity amongst colleagues, she did make amends the day next or following weekday.

A Staring Game With Jana

Other acts in the workplace included Jana and I pulling a face at each other early in the morning. Like today where we passed each other and she stuck her hand out pointing at me and making me almost walk into her finger, we made a funny gesture when at the printer. Walking up to get some of my prints, we didn’t share words but rather, blankly stared at each other, sort of playing a mind game to see who would either crack up first or say something.

Jana tried to have a serious face on her as well as a face that was littered with feigned curiosity. Staring at each other even as we took a couple of steps into opposite directions, we finally let out a telling smile to our little game and were back on our way to our devices. Another person that I noticed through the day was Jonas, again at the photocopier in the kitchen. During our little gesture of words, Calla walked through the outside door into the kitchen and after walking past the corridor, much to surprise, she came back and started talking to one of her female friends.

Calla And Her Farewell Party

I know that Calla has an interest for me just as I for her and it was proven by our conversation of late not yet noted and her stepping back into the room to ogle inadvertently as I was. Calla definitely has a great fashion sense where clothes just sit on her perfectly shaped body. She has that cute and attracting face and having an English accent doesn’t go astray.

Although I know my charms of old will not approach me by the time she heads off for England in a couple of weeks, I know with this recent conversation and her inviting me out to her farewell party that I’ll stand a slim chance. Pertinent waters show that she holds interest enough to invite me and sense to be keen in conversation and suggestion if ever the opportunity of some fun arises before she heads off. Besides, I’ve had experience with one week flings but being with Kathryn doesn’t count too well as we developed feelings for each other.

Chasing Cheerleaders

Staying on this favorable roll, having lunch at midday, I ended up doing the usual and heading out downstairs to meet up with Linh and the rest of them. Heading over to Linh’s section first I couldn’t find him around and as I was heading for the lift I bumped into that guy from New Zealand whose name is Rhett (It’s official but as you know, I have a bad memory when it comes to names). Feeding me ideas about heading down to Darling Harbor as the cheerleaders for the Broncos would be there, I wanted to see that action as well as getting something to eat.

Meeting up with Thao and Linh downstairs, Matthias, Zebulon the Asian birthday boy to which I headed to Hungry Jacks with and Elias joined us outside. Now as you won’t know Elias, he’s a guy that is playing for Sutherland’s Gridiron team and goes back as far as winning the competition two years ago with the Macarthur Rams. This was all when Tatton was called Tatton for always stuffing things up and as I kept bringing up things from Gridiron and that season, he kept bringing his own little flavor of knowledge into the conversation.

As you might have figured, I headed out to see the cheerleaders at Darling Harbor but to what also split the two groups up. Zebulon, Rhett and Elias were set on heading down to Darling Harbor and I really wanted to head out with Thao, Linh and Matthias but my loins made the decision. Trying to coax the three of them into heading out with us, it didn’t quite work and as the three of them started walking away for Darling Harbor Linh said “If you want to go you can go man”.

Deciding on the last second to head off their way, I made quick haste to catch up with them and taking me in, I joined in on the conversation. Warming up with Rhett who has shown to be easy to talk to, I also chatted a couple of words with Zebulon and then shared much conversation chatting about Gridiron with Elias. “You should join this year” he remarked as I commented on how I quit the season because of my stuffed up finger. “Just play on defense and you won’t have to worry” he stated.

Gridiron Parade Letdown

Elias sounded casually flamboyant, as if he had to be a touch flamboyant to show everyone what kind of man he was. This showed when we ended our trip across the bridge and headed through the shopping arcade to arrive at the dampened festivities of the Gridiron Parade. There were no cheerleaders and all we could see was a huge obstacle course where you had to run around some witch hats and then throw a gridiron ball into a series of holes in blown up obstacles to finally tackle a big air filled bag.

Everyone kept urging Elias to head up there and try it out as we knew deep down, he was just edging to get out there and prove how serious he could treat the festive course. Instead, there we stood for around twenty minutes, watching time elapse and the chance of a decent lunch squandering away. Elias didn’t end up testing anything out and as there were no cheerleaders on parade, after watching a little girl catching a ball from one of those baseball feeders, we headed off for a hurried lunch.

In this time Elias talked more about the Gridiron team from America and how a junior team came down and played a selected junior team from Australia. Boasting in how he was one of those selected, he kept saying “You should have joined”, then noting that they diligently lost by three touchdowns to nothing. “Those guys have college contracts already” Elias noted about the classy players. On the way back over the Harbor’s bridge I spotted that Italian guy that Matthias knows and we had lunch with. Looking at him for a couple of seconds, we raised hands and waved to each other as we walked past each other.

Lunch Falls Apart

Heading back to work, the little group started to fall into a chaos as to where we would eat. Having only around fifteen minutes and nearly not enough time, I figured that I was just going to buy some takeaway sushi to eat at work. The first to fall out from the group was Zebulon who had to head to the bank and grab some cash to buy some food. “You can all go and get something to eat if you want” he noted and taking his offer, we done exactly that.

Leaving him behind the next to fall out was Elias who said he was heading up to Pitt Street for some reason. Later in the day from Najla I found out that the cheerleaders were parading on Pitt Street and somehow, I thought Elias was being sly, knowing that they would be there. Anyway, now it was just me and Rhett and already having had good conversation with him, we had a couple more promising words until we both split up.

Deciding that he was going to head into the food court at HMV, I kept walking on to my sushi store and from there I just walked back to work and ate at my desk. Buying a sushi pack, I spent the next ten minutes picking out the small pieces of wrapped sushi to eat, saturating most pieces with the soy sauce provided. Later, when Najla came back from lunch herself she noted how while at Macdonald’s alone some guy sat next to her and they sparked up conversation.

Making gestures that he was trying to crack on Najla said “Oh Tony, no he wasn’t”, making herself believe that he was and trying to hide something, thinking I would reveal this to her insecure boyfriend. Anyway, as it turns out, he worked at HIH in level five and as they headed back to work, they said goodbye to each other and that was it. Later in the day I also talked to Linh and Leroy who held no grudges about my having lunch with Rhett. However, they did inform me that I missed out on my cheerleaders so I struck out both on lunch and on entertainment.
