Waiting for Jett
Hello groovers, how are we this morning, great to see. My wishes go out with my heart and future ambitions at this moment, yearning to be outside with my laptop, basking in the sun and yourself, enjoying the exuberance of my novelistic literature. However, I am encamped in my room with this dulling light, looking outside at another sunny day of nearing spring.
This morning I woke up at 10:30 a.m. after getting to sleep last night around 1:45 a.m. These days I’m so backlogged with these entries that I don’t care to make those little pointers but as I am calmed before I decide to head out to the gym today, I should be granting a systematic wisdom of unfolding chronology. Then here we shall, with ebbing interest begin on Monday’s episode.
Man, just as I was on the toilet I was thinking to myself “Today’s going to be a day where I’m going to unhook the phone and get down to business” and in that very thought, the phone rang. Originally I thought it was going to be Lyssa but in all events, it turned out to be Jett on the other end. I’m not sure what Jett is up to but he uttered “I’ll be coming over later today” to which I sat unnoticeably puzzled.
Jett was adamant in his request and as he added “I’ll bring over a video” I figured that he was either having some sort of fray with his parents or he was trying to find a way of getting back his Playstation. Either way, I was a minute too late to unhooking the phone as I was even rushed from the toilet to answer. Now I have just over an hour to complete some work in these pages before Jett tenders his way over here.
Later in the afternoon I also want to head to the Gym where 3:00 p.m. will be the desired time to head off so I figure that I’ll have an hour or two with him before I end up revealing my agenda for the day. That probably won’t bother Jett a great deal as he’ll leave with his Playstation and I’ll head to the gym, knowing I have an empty house and eager hand to type upon these pages tonight.
Dad Needs a Dentist
Getting to the right stuff, Mondayitis had no prevalence on my first working day this week. Waking myself up as per normal to the alarm, had myself a shower, something quick to eat and raced against time to get myself out that door. However, Monday morning was a touch different to my usual departures to which dad was already awake and walking to my bedroom door, he asked if I wanted a lift to the station. Feeling that this would increase my time of getting ready in the morning, I agreed and relaxed a touch in my preparations.
Little was I to know that dad was persistent in his bid to leave the house, constantly asking me if I had been ready yet. Midway through my last minutes, he rushed me by noting that he would start the car to which he then reversed it outside. Irritated as now I had to get rushed some more, I quickly sprayed on some ‘Chrome’ and ran out to the impatient one. The garage doors had already been closed and locked but there was a reason to dad’s persistency as I started chatting on the way to the station.
As it turns out, one of dad’s teeth were really aching and he wanted to get down to the dentists in Campbelltown where I got my last tooth pulled out for free. Noting that he wanted to get there as early as possible so he could get rid of the pain in his tooth, I sympathized with his situation as he dropped me off at the station.
Twenty minutes too early for my train, I sat around glancing at all the ceded faces to the tethering of Mondayitis. For that whole time I sat around anticipating my train and upon jumping on, headed upstairs. Arriving at Leumeah, Lyssa didn’t bob her head up the stairs like I gathered she would, stirring my thoughts that her appearance some time ago might have just been a one-off for her emotional balance of the day.
Mail and Two Rebukes
There was nothing special about my trip to the City as I slept most of the way, glanced at ladies jumping on the train and ended up at Wynyard. Marching up the stairs of the station, I flashed my ticket to the machine, walked through and was on my brisk journey to work. Grabbing the mail from downstairs, I made my way to my section on level two and before you know it, Najla and I got stuck into the mail.
Monday did have a touch of affliction as my manageable day started turning with comments against my execution. The first comment came from Margot who made it a point to come out to my desk and notify me that she found a couple of pages of filing in the wrong file. That was a small irk of the office which dampened my spirits of the morning.
Najla was also there when I was getting informed of my mistakes and I could just picture her feeling complacent thus far. Later in the day, Jana made her treacherous appearance at my desk with another blow of woe. This time around I’d made the mistake of writing the wrong barrister on a brief which meant the barrister who received the brief got aggravated with his having to return it to the rightful barrister.
Protesting to the knowledge that he was on the hearing list when first I placed his name on the list, I checked the hearing list again to see that it had changed. Jana pledged that it had always been the same but as Lyssa says, sometimes I believe in something so much that I think it to be the truth. I really thought that the other barrister was on my list and I’m probably right but that doesn’t shed any emphatic pledge upon my second lecture.
Briefs and Spare Time
The day outside was a fair day and inside, it had the potential of being just as pleasant. With last month’s briefs being drawn out into this new week, I had two more to complete before I could think of starting on any new briefs. On last Friday Najla and I spent the last hour of work writing up our new brief lists for September.
Making it a note to start one month before the hearing (Despite Thalia always starting three weeks out) I figured this would give us a greater length of time to complete filing in that extra week down the track. However, Najla hasn’t had that much work when it comes to putting together briefs this past week and despite the lack of her preferred task, she didn’t get much else done.
This whole week was a great opportunity for Najla to exceed her expectations in filing but all she exceeded was my trying patience and agitation. Nevertheless, the both of us held some benefit in Esme being away as Najla opted to sit at her desk for the day. Being the first real time we’ve been spaced from each other, we did get more work done and less chat. This also gave us a chance to get away from each other’s irritations and all in all, it was a deserved decision.
Running Out of Envelopes
Monday was just the beginning of our stock in administration drying up. Najla is usually good at doing the little things around work like closing files, gutting briefs and writing up different things to look off so it makes it easier but, she was just as lost as I when we came to our last larger than A4 Envelopes. For the last couple of days she’s kept saying “We’re running out of these envelopes” as if to usher me out in search of some more but she also has legs and I figure she can lead by example.
However, when the last of the bigger envelopes was used up during the day, it was up to me to ask around and find out where exactly I could get some more. Najla was trying to shield herself away from this task for the last couple of days to which I was a touch irked in having to ask Thalia where to find them. Troubles were growing as I headed down to see Cassidy on level one to which she was away for a whole week.
Greta was down there but she informed me that she didn’t know if they had any envelopes to my desire and checking out the stock room myself, I couldn’t find the right size. Therefore, we were lost in what to do and the only answer was to finally consider buying some brown paper to wrap up the briefs for the day.
Brown Paper Rescue
Ever since I’ve started at HIH the call has been for brown paper to be ordered but no one ever got around to it. Taking matters into my own hands and running off some advice, I headed down to the mailroom where I was told they had reams of the stuff. Figuring that we were on level ground with our kissing each other’s ass, I walked downstairs with the intent on asking where they bought their brown paper from but ended up with their blessing to take a ream for myself.
Strolling into the back room I noticed six reams of brown paper and as they were large I made a joke about how it would be hard carrying them upstairs. “Oh no, we’ll give you a trolley to wheel them up” he resplendently noted as I sought Thalia’s opinion before heading back downstairs and wheeling it into the elevator. Now we have brown paper to which Najla is a touch more frustrated with her part in the afternoon mail as it consumes more time than she desires.
However, she chose to do the larger portions of mail because she didn’t want to get a paper cut folding the letters (Something that hasn’t happened to me since the first two weeks of work) so she’ll have to bite her tongue now. In addition, I even collected some of our smaller envelopes from level one when down there and delivered an package internally on level two. Walking around the whole of the department glancing at all the different sections, I finally made my way to this young guy in administration and handed him the package before heading back.
