A Night Of Tea And Coughing

The saga begins late last night. When I was trying to get to sleep, my cold didn’t seem like relenting. As it gradually got worse and my nose started to block, I kept placing the image of drinking tea in my head and that made me restless. Unable to sleep, I finally got out of bed at 12:30 a.m. despite my will to sleep and knowing this will take away from it. Nevertheless, as I headed upstairs in the cold breeze and waited around for the tea to boil I sat, subdued by the pressures of the nagging cough, sipping hot tea, hoping it will burn away the virus.

Soothing as this little time drinking tea was, I headed back downstairs and almost instantly starting coughing again, bringing forth the phlegm that had hidden itself. Let me tell you, the taste in my mouth after a bubbling cough that brings up phlegm is like chewing on the mercury in a thermometer. Metallic would be the best word to describe the taste, sort of like having a copper lining around your gums and each cough brings up that saliva of solvent taste.

Regardless of my short sleep chopped down from an initial seven hour stint, I didn’t feel too tired in the morning. Heading to sleep, I thought that my getting out of the routine for one day would make me seem lazy for work thinking thoughts like “Oh, I don’t want to get up” but there was no such case.

Heading upstairs expectant of the cold zephyrs, I grabbed myself some more tea and with it, brought down two pieces of toast, the only things that would be edible without disgruntling the already metallic taste in my mouth. Not really feeling any better, I was coughing all morning and throughout the day I didn’t fare much different. Nevertheless, I knew I couldn’t take a second day in a row and soldiering on, I knew that if I didn’t catch up on my work, no one else would.

Being inside the office was alright on me as I had my jacket on at all times to keep warmer. However, when I headed out to lunch or to an errand at the end of the day, the strong winds created a second breath of destruction for my sinuses. Not only did my face freeze up but the strong winds and freezing temperatures at the end of the day waiting for my bus had me sitting there shivering, hoping to God that the bus would come soon.

Buying Lyssa Lunch

Having planned to catch the train with Lyssa, I was only hoping that she would stick to her side of the bargain as she did the day before, coaxed by my intent to buy her lunch. Let me not sour with words of contempt here too long but I do feel I need to make a due point. Today, out of courtesy and knowing I didn’t want to see Lyssa go hungry for a day, I decided to buy her something to eat, no restrictions, no strings attached.

That was my one act of kindness for ‘Kindness Week’ but even though I know Lyssa appreciates what I do, sometimes I just don’t think it’s worth the effort. It’s all good that Lyssa says thank you and appreciates my helping her out whenever I can but what frustrates me is that I never see that same act of kindness from her. Look back in these pages, even when Lyssa and I were going out you would rarely see her returning a favor or just helping me out, out of the blue, without my pleadings and at her own cause.

I will persist to help out Lyssa wherever I can but I just don’t appreciate how Lyssa rarely shows such acts of kindness herself. It all comes down to my earlier understanding of Lyssa, when it comes to me, she’s all about money and the flow dominantly heading her way. Between the both of us, Lyssa will never willfully hand over money my way unless there is a catch twenty two in her favor.

Even if Lyssa owes me money, she will make herself forget, become oblivious or just procrastinate to the point where I have to ask to which she usually bickers. On the other hand, I am stupid in a way of handing over money to Lyssa when she pouts her lips and tells of her despondent stories of woeful discrepancies. I do play the fool to one who plays the fool and I the fool am, when she fools me.

The Train With Lyssa

Catching my regular bus and then onto my regular train, I sat on the second carriage facing the opposite way in which we were traveling. As we stopped at Leumeah, with my facing the opposite way I thought Lyssa would have a hard trouble finding me but she seemed to have no trouble. Popping up right next to me, she sat down beside me and we began to chat. Myself with a grumbling voice, Lyssa told me how she had woken up at 7:00 a.m. and only had a couple of minutes in which to get ready.

Taking a look at Lyssa, she didn’t look too appealing and from what I could see, it didn’t appear like she was looking after herself. Later when we got into conversation, Lyssa told me how she really wanted to get into fitness but found it hard to find motivation. Yet, Lyssa would always seem eager to head out to pubs and clubs to get drunk and upon those words she called herself fat and became depressed with the news of her new diet. Lyssa did look different to what I knew of her back when we were going out.

Lyssa took more care of her body back then and it might be stress from work that is contributing but I feel that she is losing the glamour and shape of her once comely body. Lyssa also thought to mention that she was in such a hurry she forgot to put on underwear as well as a bra. In addition, Lyssa was late for her periods, being continually late over the past few months. Lyssa didn’t appreciate the little mow I’m growing under my chin, downgrading it to bothersome bum-fluff.

“Get rid of it” she obnoxiously shouted and as her word is more dominant, I sat lowly in my seat. However, even though Lyssa doesn’t appreciate what I’m trying to grow, I do and therefore, I will keep growing it. Lyssa was sounding amiable for the trip tot the City but I couldn’t help to notice the obnoxious within her just waiting to unleash upon me with something wrongly said. Lyssa raises her voice and stresses out over the littlest things and that’s why she is sometimes unbearable to be around.

Cold Seats And A Croaky Voice

Making our way to St. James Station, we made plans to have lunch for the day as I cemented my thoughts on her being a bitch by dogging me or making me feel petty when she rejects me over the phone. Lyssa seemed to get angry and obnoxious about my comments despite their holding truth and as she jumped off the train I relaxed for another two stops before jumping off. The seats were freezing when first jumping on in the morning and even Lyssa noticed the calamity of coldness.

It fared no better when I headed to work with my runny nose, building and building with blockage all the way to the City. Collecting the mail from downstairs and then dropping it off in our section, I headed straight for the toilet and like many other times during the day, blew my nose and relieved my sinuses. This was a great relief after getting a blocked nose and a gurgling throat after a cough. My throat was so bad and sounded so lowly that Thalia commented on the comedy of my croaky voice.

From the commencement of my day and after getting past telling everyone that I was still a touch sick, I sat down and worked hard on getting out some briefs. As thought, Najla hadn’t started on any files Kelsey had handed to us days ago despite our having to ration them between us. Nevertheless, Najla was stuck by herself and they aren’t top priority so I do give her some slack upon her judgment of priority.

There wasn’t much chatter in the morning stages where I did complete two of my briefs after the mail at 10:00 a.m. From there, before lunchtime was due I completed another one for Kelsey and sending off an urgent file to be photocopied for Jana, I wasn’t expecting that to come back until after lunch.

Trying to make arrangements with Najla at the start of the day regarding what time I wanted to head for lunch, somehow she got it mixed up and when midday came she said “Alright, goodbye, see you after lunch” as if it was time for me to head off. “Wait a minute, aren’t you heading off for lunch now” I questioned as we debated about what was said in the morning and then leniency was shown to my having plans. Thanking Najla for allowing me my plans, she headed off to lunch and within half an hour she was back at work.
