Trying On Contact Lenses
After making my journey to the mall toilets so I could blow my nose, I headed back down the street to the optometrist I visited some two years ago to try on some contact lenses. Hoping that I wouldn’t have to use my Medicare Card I made my trek inside and chatted to the lady assistant I think was there two years ago. As an entrée, we checked out glasses around the store and getting to the more dominant reasons for being there, we started talking contact lenses.
Showing the lady a brochure I had in my pocket for a certain brand of contact lenses, she snubbed the idea of that brand as she thought they hadn’t much quality to them. Talking price and how it would cost me $50 to learn hot to put in contact lenses as well as up to $350 for the contact lenses themselves, she showed me a couple of colors that were stored away in small containers full of solvent. Figuring that she wasn’t too enthusiastic in assisting me with trying on some contact lenses, I brought up the topic and to her hesitance, she agreed to help me try some on.
Taking out my card with all the test results from a year or two back we sat in the darkened room where she brought out a green and blue contact lens for me to try on and judge for myself. Placing the concave lens on the tip of her finger as it grasped with the surrounding solvent she came up to me from behind and prepared her first attempt.
Starting with my right eye and a blue contact lens, she instructed “Now look down, look at your nose”. Holding the top and bottom of my eye firmly I fought her attempt to place the contact lens in my eye vigorously. As my last attempt to try contact lenses, my right eye was dominantly defensive in which it was duly noted I had a strong eyelid. Each time we tried it unsuccessfully my eyes would water profusely in which the lady noted “Don’t worry, you’re eyes will get tired eventually”.
Noting that my left eye was less susceptible to flinch in which I got it in first go last time around, she noted that it was the last time she would try with my right eye before she moved to my left. Figuring that it was these words that loosened my eye’s anxiety, the contact lens found its way into a much relaxed eye and finally after five minutes, the blue contact lens was affixed.
Taking out the green contact lens it only took one go like I noted to get it into my left eye which for some reason shows no fear. With the both of them now affixed we moved to the windows in the normal part of the shop where the lighting was more appealing. With all the tears in my eyes and red stress veins around the ball of my eyes I asked for a tissue in which I could wipe them away and receive a better judgment.
Choosing A Color
To my liking, the blue looked a touch too natural in my eyes and it didn’t stand out as well as I would have liked it. Putting my hand over each eye successively I tried to judge which was the better of the two but I didn’t like either one. “Which one do you think is better” I asked and as she covered each eye with her hand she noted that the blue looked more natural but if I wanted to stand out, the green was the more viable option.
As she took out the blue lens so I could see the difference in color between the contact lens and my normal pigmentation, I couldn’t see too much of a drastic change. The contact lens gave me a lighter and more defined green lining with a touch of browning towards the pupil. Looking at my natural eye I couldn’t see much of a difference between the two except that the lens stood out more for some reason.
However, taking a look at my eyes now and seeing that there is more of a darker brown in them than green (As they always tend to change with lighting and amount of sleep) I would be inclined to think that the green contact lenses will continually stand out in color at times like these. Nevertheless, I told the woman that I didn’t appreciate each color as they were too hued, as if watered down in their standing out. I wanted a bluer blue or a jaded green but a color that wouldn’t scream out “Fake”.
As the lady took out the second contact lens we talked prices again and then I headed out the shop, informing her of my intention to return in a fortnight’s time. How exiting, I will finally have contact lenses, one of those fashion accessories I’ve always wanted but never got around to doing. That applies with my desire for braided hair and clubbing clothes and where one of those desires have now come true, I eagerly await my second and in as short a time, my third change to appearance.
Missing The Bradbury Bus
Being the last place of interest, I made my way back to the train station to catch a bus, hungry for something to eat and with a big itch in my throat from my flu. Just as I was heading through the tunnel to the station I noticed my Bradbury bus taking off and looking at the time being 12:57 p.m. I was pissed off that I had to now change my plans. Heading to where my bus-stop was I looked at the bus timetables but as usual, the Bradbury one wasn’t pasted up there.
Pissed off, I decided it would be best to walk home instead of waiting half an hour and so I headed down Queen Street and back home. On the way past the last bus-stop just up from Pizza Hut on Dumaresq Street I noticed a familiar face sitting down. It was Linda sitting down, the girl I used to adore back in my early teens when I used to hang out with Johnnie and someone whom I recently saw at Chevy’s looking fairly decent.
Linda Looks Twice
As I passed her with my hair out and flowing in the breeze, she looked up at me favorably. Now the look that Linda gave me was one of desire I am all too aware of. Whenever I see a hot girl walk past I usually give them a stare that beckons them to be well aware of the message my loins send. Linda was looking at me as if she wanted to say hello but from my mysterious nature, she just watched me pass by.
I figure that Linda was interested and infatuated from when she saw me at Chevy’s and as I thought she looked hot she probably thought “Man, is that Tony, fuck has he changed and man does he look good now”. Hoping that she thought to herself “Look what I turned down ages ago” as I walked past I would otherwise have stopped but because I had a very sore throat I decided to keep walking.
Hair Habits
Speaking of my hair, I took my hat down to Campbelltown but these days, I have grown more comfortable with leaving my hair out. As you would probably know, I care not to wash my hair with shampoo or conditioner normally and it only gets such treatment when I get my haircut. My hair hangs heavy enough when I don’t wash it with shampoos and I prefer how it hangs after I have just washed it, together in clumps.
My hair is manageable as it sticks together and even though I don’t feed it chemicals on a regular basis, it has a certain shine and a strong manageability. Back in the days when I used to shampoo and condition my hair it would puff out when I would just leave it out. This would look (For a lack of a better word) gay and that is half the reason I continually donned a hat or beanie.
Nowadays, because I use Brylcreem that tends to moisturize the hair after a wash or two, it brings a greater lathering to my hair that makes it fall just right when dry. My hair looks best when just out of the shower after half an hour, when my hair sticks together instead of falling like a fluff in prior cases.
Fish With Maddox
Making my way to Bradbury shops first, I ordered myself a battered fish and headed into the newsagent to browse through some magazines. Heading back to the shop I noticed Maddox walking in and after he ordered he noticed me and we stepped just outside to have a chat. We talked about the game ‘Driver’ shiningly as he asked me why I don’t work out at the Gym anymore. After noting I was sick and our chatting about my work I paid for my fish, we talked for a couple more minutes and then I headed back home.
On the way I bumped into the old crossing lady for Bradbury Public School. We just chatted about my job and as she jokingly asked me not to pass on my cold she congratulated me on my success as I made my way back home. The time was 2:15 p.m. when I arrived back home and before having something to eat I decided to call Lyssa again. Previously, I called Lyssa before leaving for Campbelltown just to tell her I was sorry for not being on the train in the morning.
Lunch Money For Lyssa
However, the first time she wasn’t at her desk yet at 2:15 p.m., she was. We talked for a minute as I told her I was sick and she noted that she did wait for me on the train in the morning. Apologizing, I made plans to meet her on the train tomorrow as well as having lunch together. “I don’t have any money for lunch tomorrow” she told me as she also noted she was in debt by $30 for owing people money.
As she noted that she spent too much on the weekend I offered to buy Lyssa some lunch tomorrow. After all, I can’t let the thought of Lyssa going hungry for a day stick in my mind so whatever I can do to help, I will. With our phone call being short because I knew Lyssa was busy at work, I let her go but not without saying I will call her later in the night.
Still Close To Lyssa
Lyssa and I have really developed a special relationship in which I still hold all the care for her but have discarded the love so it doesn’t complicate situations. For Lyssa to sleep over my house and for there to be no curiosity regarding sexuality to mess up our great relationship, that is a special achievement. I guess it’s true when people say you can never get rid of your first but for me, I don’t want to get rid of her. The relationship we have now isn’t over the top, it isn’t too little and we’re basically there when needed.
Lyssa still hold a special bond and sort of a sixth sense between the both of us. We have learnt to read each others minds when it comes to action and an example of this is how we always come to the same emotional conclusions when it comes to what we feel is a prolonged silence between us. An example of this would be when Lyssa and I both felt the need to call each other on the one year remembrance of our breaking up.
Lyssa had no clue but a sixth sense in her mind bid her, like myself, desire to call. Another example would be this Sunday just past where each time the phone rang I would hope it was Lyssa and thankfully enough, Lyssa answered my prayers by ringing. It isn’t everyday that I hope for Lyssa to call but those days where I do will such desires, Lyssa always comes through with the goods. So yes, we do have a special bond after our one year relationship and as in our relationship, we have had ups and downs.
However, like in the last two or three months of our relationship where I thought we started to harmonize with each other and hold a great love, I feel that a great respect for each other is emanating as we speak. If Lyssa does end up leaving next year to fulfill the ambitions that the psychic put forth, I will be more happy for her rather than despondent for losing a once great lover and a continuing best friend of great praise that none can equal.
