Reading Poetry Again

Just thought I would let you know that I didn’t play any computer games tonight but rather I started reading poetry again. It was this reading that influenced me enough to envision the first line of my Sonnet but as I turned my computer on an hour and a half ago that one line was all that made sense. You could say I had writers block after I wrote down my thought and tried to capitalize on it but I finally realized what I wanted to write down and poetry never came easier.

Well, it was hard to write this particular piece of poetry but it does make sense. The first line that I expanded upon was ‘An unlikely poet thou makest me’. For that line I was thinking in my head while reading some lesser known poetry from people like Alexander Pope and Abel Evans “This poetry has no meter, it speaks gibberish, I have done better.” The poetry I was reading did not appeal to me as it had many couplet rhymes and bad ones at that.

For that reason I compared myself with other poets and other poetry. That’s how I came up with the line as I would think myself an unlikely poet to look at me but as the second line would indicate, I do breathe a breath of fresh air into the old English poetry I am trying to achieve. Let you decide upon that, here is my Sonnet of late…

My Latest Sonnet

Overwhelmed art mine words with admiration

An unlikely poet thou makest me,

Yet, these age old lays dost breathe fresh of air,

And firm thou stamp thy hooves in regard’s sea,

Upon this prose for which I am it’s mare,

And fine dost kiss verse’s lips with such brine,

That oceans regard shalt well be of laud,

And age shall bring forth none wrinkled of time,

To flattering verse that time can afford,

Regal art these thoughts that humble me so,

That wear these pages like a princely robe,

And plucks with sword, words which he then bestows,

This Kingly grave within a Kingly grove,

My summers shall shine, my winters shall spring,

Even my autumn shall poetry bring,

Explaining My Own Poem

Now to elaborate upon that poem let me once again bring on my understanding and knowledge of that piece of literature. The first line once again indicates that my being a poet came upon by chance and I would be an unlikely candidate for poetical eyes to feast upon me. Yet, I do breathe a breath of fresh air into the old English poems I try to emulate (1.2).

And you firmly regard (1.3) the poetry that I create and am mother to (1.4). Even so, my verse is very passionate (1.5) in the waters that regards it so with praise (1.6). And even time shall not be aged (1.7). Time shall hold forever such a flattering verse (1.8) and it can afford to do so eternally. The sextet now appears to change mood to a more accepting but humble nature to which the reason is that I call myself a poet (1.9).

My thoughts are strong and regal that I write so humbly and without the need for praise. My thoughts that are worth more than the paper they are written on (1.10) are placed there, plucked from my mind (1.11) and then offered to ‘This Kingly grave within a Kingly grove’. Theoretically, the plucking of thoughts with the sword (1.11) is offered as a sacrifice and placed within such a highly regarded grave which in turn are these pages.

Kingly grove simply means that these pages that born of a grove and made to paper bears the regal thoughts which I write. The last two lines signifies that all seasons of the year and forevermore shall bring my poetry. There is no stoppage to the ruling of my thoughts that does make of me such an unlikely poet. My summer’s shall be bright, my winters shall be like spring which are exuberant and even autumn which represents dying shall share in this exuberant nature.

A Brain Wracking Evening

Once again I am starting to write poetry as I am less active in the days and the nights. Alas, it isn’t coming easy to me as thinking up fourteen lines of excellence usually doesn’t come easy. Today I tried doing that exact feat and as it took me two hours you can imagine it was brain wracking. I’m sure I’ve said this before but these couple of poems I’ve written in the last couple of days haven’t been in my proper frame of mind.

Usually my mind is more open and can roam freely for thoughts but with these poems I felt like I was enclosed to many lyrical suggestions. Despite that I think these last two poems and the latest written today have been great works and I feel that working with partial writers block helps me to gain a different perspective on my writing. You can be the judge for yourself if it is better than the poems that were coming to me left right and center last month.
