Fidgeting On The Train

The night (like these early frosty winter days) had been drawn to the cold weather and the true warmth of my sweater had shown through. There was a sense of warmth with my new sweater but it didn’t keep out the cold efficiently making it feel like a long sleeve over a short sleeve shirt. On the train home I sat in between a man and an older woman simply because I wanted to sit next to something attractive.

In addition, there was this good looking girl sitting in front of me and it probably appeared like I followed and then sat behind her, which is partially true but I just needed to sit down. Having the drawstring bag from ‘Blue’ in my hands, I was playing with it all the way home, and the truth about me is that I always have to fidget with something. I can never sit still for more than a minute. Even when it comes to being comfortable, I always have to fidget or move around on my ass so to get comfortable, and it happens a lot.

Unbeknownst to me whilst wrapping the drawstring around my fingers and poking my other fingers in and out, it hadn’t struck me how kinky this would have looked to people looking on until thinking about it. The lady sitting next to me had a certain interest about her face. While her body language was silently tame, you could tell that she was intrigued by it all. When finally realizing what my fingers were subliminally imitating, I became wary of her deciphered impressions but didn’t stop.

There was one stage (and I’m not too sure if she was doing the same thing) where she started stroking the drink she had in her hand, up and down with her moistening finger. To me it felt as if she was trying to create the same visual display that my mind would wander through, and for a few seconds, I was ensnared in her subjugation.

The Phone Lady

Heading off the train, I made my way to the telephones near the stairs in hopes of finding one available but that’s as easy as having a one minute conversation with Ralf on the phone. Therefore, with a stampede of people hording around, I headed upstairs to where this short, aging European looking lady (kind of like my mum but more Lebanese) was hanging up the only phone, and what’s more, she kept ringing numbers but was naïve not to place any money into it.

She must have just been fresh off from her country never having seen public telephones before, not knowing that she had to pay for each call. Standing behind her, I thought that she would give up after one call but she kept hanging the phone up slowly and then dialing a number until it rung out or someone picked up. At one stage it seemed like she had a phone card but I didn’t want to make myself believe that.

I was going to help her out but there was some Asian guy in work clothes standing around wanting to use the phone too and I would have felt like it would have demeaned the lady. She mightn’t have been able to speak English either so I was polite enough to wait. When finally she finished I gave Keith a call who was on his way back to Campbelltown from picking up Tamsen, and asking him if he could pick me up from the station, he said he would be around in twenty minutes.

Cash And Tallulah

With this time on my hands waiting for Keith and wanting to take out the rest of my available money, I headed on a quick stroll towards the main street. The jumper wasn’t serving too great a purpose of keeping me warm so I had to jog every now and then to keep my fires up. Heading to the bank I noticed two girls jump out and start using the automatic tellers so I just sat back in my demure-looking stance and waited patiently.

Stepping out of the car came another girl which stood right next to me, and when glancing over at her, she done the same to me. Our eyes met and strangely enough she looked familiar to me. My face turned to that curiosity and familiarity and that’s why I think we both said hello to each other in a friendly gesture. As I then turned to her I asked, “You’re one of Lyssa’s friends aren’t you,” and as she answered yes, I knew how I had seen her in Lyssa’s pictures.

Mentioning that to her, I asked if she knew who I was but she had no clue. The girls name was Tallulah and the only place she knew Lyssa from was at school. They never hung out together and therefore, it was pleasing to find how she would never have heard of the two of us going out together, and how she managed to catch me up in my suit and not in my old tracksuit pants style of clothes.

Not that I want her to think, “Lyssa has great taste” but because people should think me a decent guy, saying, “She’s lucky to have gone out with him.” Allowing her to go before me, she done what she had to do on the automatic teller and as she left, we both turned at the same time and said “Goodbye.” Her friends looked decent too, as she jumped back in their car and drove off.

Picking Up Tamsen Too

Heading back to the station with an extra $270 to my name, I stopped off at a hot food store and bought myself a chico roll, a cheaper one thanks to all my loose change. Eating it on the way back to the station I stopped at the front to wait for Keith where he arrived and beeped on the other side of the road five minutes later.

Making my way over in the frostbitten ethers surrounding me, I could notice through the tinting that Tamsen was also inside. Now it struck me curious as to why he picked her up from the city in the first place but it then worried me to think he’s still chauffeuring her around. Jumping in the car I said hello to her and headed away from a possible minefield to the backseat.

There was a certain air about the two of them as they headed towards the Catholic Club. I had a feeling that Keith was trying too hard and Tamsen wasn’t caring. The reason they were heading to the Catholic Club was because Tamsen was meeting a couple of people there, later learning that the two guys Tatton knew from her party were trying to get onto her. Tamsen was wearing some good clothes, which made her look pretty good so she must be out to impress.

Pleading Outside The Club

When we arrived at the Catholic Club Keith jumped out of the car as Tamsen did so Keith could have a word in relative private surroundings. Jumping out of the car myself and leaning across the door towards the Catholic Club, I could see the body language between the both of them. Tamsen had her hands on her hips listening to Keith and at times when she tried walking away, he would stop her by walking in front holding her calmly at bay.

Tamsen would linger to listen to more of his pitiful pleading in which later I found out that he was trying to arrange for them both to head out together as a date. Keith has the idea of them falling back in love drilled in his head. He was set on making it happen. There was animosity in their faces and there were also smiles coming from them both but it seemed the shine was affected by forged loathing.

She just wanted to let go, to have fun and be single. Tamsen is as far from Keith as she wants to be and as she wants to keep moving on, Keith will keep trying to pull her back in with selfish needs. Fair enough Keith might love her but how could he say that after having the nerve to cheat on her with Phoenix, and then had the nerve to say that it didn’t really matter because they weren’t married.

Three Weeks Of Peace

Tamsen told Keith that she would go out with Keith in three weeks time if he managed to leave her alone for that long, sort of like a bonus for letting her live her life. By this you can tell who’s court the ball is in and it seems to me that Tamsen is playing all the cards. She can make or break his hopes but we all know my prediction.

Tamsen is letting Keith ride the emotional downfall of breaking up for a little while, wanting to go cold turkey but also feeling the need to satisfy his lonely cravings in a lesser diminishing scale. When Tamsen weighs up three weeks without having to think about Keith as opposed to one date with him where she can have total control, I feel she feels that one date is sacrifice enough for three weeks without his company.

I always thought with their constant arguments that it would end up almost as cold as it is now. I sort of had a hunch that there would be a contrast between one’s liberation and one’s imploring nature but I never knew who would break up with who.
