Serbia, the Three Hundredth Page and a Day at the Beach (Part 1) – Mad Chaos: October 27, 1998

There has been a war in Serbia for the last year or more and only now have I really paid attention to the facts on television as Macedonia and Serbia’s name were mentioned. The people that live in Yugoslavia, these people that are fighting with the ethnic Albanians are my blood, my people and my dignity. If I show no care then I care not for those who have lived and died to give me an opportunity here, in Australia. If one of my blood dies then a part of me dies too. Albania to me is just a name that I care none more to fight against than my father’s fathers wish to cease war against them. It is in my blood but I do not feel the anger yet, I have never seen an Albanian. Maybe if I had I would hate like my forefathers do now but I gather the killing shall be done in my heart, the death of war in Serbia and peace with all who wish to die by the sword for their country.

Here you hear words of valor and here you see a momentous occasion. Not for the glorified speech that was just given but for the landmark on which it was done. You see, the last page was the 300th page of this month and it was all done remembering my night at Penrith Panthers and then my day at the beach with Binh, Shawn and the rest of them. Tonight I speak of hope, that is, hope of getting paid. Today (Which I speak of Monday) I had no troubles handing in my form and I hope that streak follows me to the bank. This will truly add the icing on the cake if I receive my money and although I have my doubts I am most certain the money will be there because this month just can’t go wrong. This month has seen many new experiences, many old experiences remembered once again and many thoughts and feelings plucked out of the air to make my life the way it is now. Ask me if I’m happy, don’t even ask because you know my life is going great right now.

Monday is the day we now elaborate of because today has not even begun. You could say these shorts early hours of Tuesday morning is the decider of my fate for the next couple of months. Either I get paid and live without worries for the next month, I don’t get paid and become a broke bum who doesn’t go anywhere or I don’t get paid and get myself a job due to lack of funds. That last one also works if I’m getting paid and get a job but it sounds more urgent the first way.

As Shawn said to me this morning as we were driving to Cronulla and after I spoke about the talk of summer in my Diary “This is the summer of love, not labor.” That’s basically what I tried to write in my Diary and laughing at his comment I told him I would probably write that in my Diary, well here it is. Sunday was a real late night for me and as Monday morning came up I didn’t get to sleep until after 4:00 a.m. Giving myself at least six hours of sleep before waking up I remembered that Shawn was going to call me in the morning for the beach, I just wasn’t sure at what time. Setting my alarm for 10:30 a.m. it didn’t do me any good as I was woken up by a call at 8:00 a.m. Shawn was ringing me to see what I was doing but still in a daze I told him that we were still going to the beach but he would have to call back at 10:00 a.m. so I could sleep.

My sleep was somewhat deprived in the last hour as I couldn’t close my eyes upon waking up again. Jumping onto the phone at 10:00 a.m. I received Shawn’s answering machine after three rings and hanging up I figured he was out somewhere. That made me happy knowing that I would get some more needed sleep but I also remembered I had to hand in my form. Regardless of my thought Shawn gave me a call back seconds later. The music was up loud and he was just out in the backyard cleaning something but as we talked our day at the beach was on because the sun was out in force. Telling Shawn I would be ready in a couple of minutes I put my hair up, some shorts, shirt, towel, wallet and then placing my shoes on I waited for his arrival. Quick breakfast was once again at hand and having some jelly I made last night I heated up a meat pie to eat in the car.

Arriving at my house in due time I jumped in with my belongings and meat pie in hand. Shawn asked me if I had a keycard that was old and wasn’t mine and taking out the keycard Lyssa gave to me ages ago of Litzy that she used to open her front door I took it with us. Shawn’s plan was to head to Tatton’s Mobil store and swipe the card the old way so that no money can get taken out of the old card and Shawn won’t have to pay. Making our way to Tatton’s store Shawn walked up to him after two customers in the store had left. Asking if it was still alright to go ahead with their plan he filled up with petrol. Tatton and I looked at front covers of pornographic magazines and noticed an advertisement on the back page that advertised prostitutes or escorts for $1000 an hour. That, if you ask me is money well out of reach and I think that no ho is worth that kind of cash. Deciding not only to buy petrol we also bought two drinks and a box of tic-tacs for the journey. Tatton swiped the card upside down so that it wouldn’t work but the camera’s would get it and as he manually swiped the card Shawn tried signing but he didn’t bother that hard with authenticity. Litzy won’t have anything charged to her card because for one it’s an old card with at least two years on it and two, well there is no two, it worked.

Shawn was now full on petrol thanks to my card and with that free cash from nowhere we decided it would be better to drive to Cronulla. Before we had done that we made our way back to Campbelltown and parking the car near the link we headed inside. While I was getting my form to fill out Shawn asked for the necessary papers to reapply for government pay. Cheering was I that the lady didn’t say anything bad was written on the computer and that’s why I’m still hoping I will be getting paid this morning.

From there we made our way to Cronulla. I was surprised to find that it was my first time traveling along Heathcote Road. Basically, we followed the East Hills train line until the turnoff towards the City and as we kept going straight we made it to Cronulla in an hours time. On the way there was a Festiva just like Shawn’s car with a nice girl in it and I thought to wave at her while she was behind us. All she could do was look at me and laugh as I kept sticking my hand out of the window and waving my fingers at her. Taking my seat belt off I continued with my lame attempt of getting her attention and I was kind of glad that she turned off a little later down the road.

Parking at Cronulla we took our shoes off and in the 34 degree heat we made our way to the cliff to view where we could sit. Seeing two girls on one side and a bunch of people on the other side I gathered we should sit on the left part of the beach where there was fewer people and more chance of talking to the two girls. Down the sand hill we traveled and to our right we noticed two women topless. This I figured was due to the fact that school people were at school and there wasn’t much people on the beach. The time was midday when we planted ourselves on our towels laying on the sand. Diminutive was the scant amount of heads bopping up and down in shallow water, less than that on the sand but not by much. Shawn was off first into the water as I lay down with my shirt off, collecting some sun. If I had money I would have bought some sunscreen but for the day I was without protection as I usually am during sexual intercourse. Anyway, my turn was up after a couple of minutes of heat and jumping in the water when there was a beautiful, voluptuous 20 year old blonde jumping in with a two piece bikini. No way could I miss that offer that was handed to me and jumping in slowly I noticed as usual the water was cold but I gained enough confidence to dip myself above the legs.

Shawn came out soon after I jumped in and swimming out once or twice deeper into the ocean I finally came out due to no waves and the two piece bikini girl stepping out. Lying on our towels I was glad that there were no clouds in the sky and the sun was as hot as peppers. Shawn wanted to head for another part of Cronulla beach and gathering the girls we were sitting near weren’t going to be approached by us any time soon we headed to the right hand side beach where I think most adults and children go. Shawn and I were placing bets on how much topless women were going to be there and as my feet were starting to blister as a result of the constant heat from the sand we hit the jackpot. The beach was full of topless women of all sizes and frames. To be honest, there wasn’t more than one set of breasts that I had seen on that beach that I really liked or appreciated for their beauty but it was good to see so much women at ease with their bodies.
