Shawn Comes Over

Walking into my room and remembering that I had asked my mum to allow anyone admission into my room as I was gone, I was somewhat glad that Shawn hadn’t arrived yet. In addition, I wasn’t too sure if Shawn was going to show up as he sounded half-hearted about the idea. Nevertheless, within a couple of minutes I heard the front door open and knowing it was Shawn I walked to the front door to let him in.

Once in my room he lay his bag down and then sat himself on the seat as we began to chat. Unaware that my memoirs were still turned on with mostly poetical lines showing, I quickly turned it off and began chatting away. The time was around 10:15 p.m. as we began to watch the new ‘Mick Molloy Show’, thinking it was hilarious how there was a Mini Mick. Whilst we were watching television I informed Shawn upon my little errant adventures with Ralf as we both had a laugh at my misfortune.

Madden Showdown

After some time we began playing the Playstation in which Shawn only brought two games but we only needed Madden 99. Choosing random selection for the first game I ended up beating Shawn by ten or more points and as he got frustrated he looked at me and said “Let’s go again”. This time around Shawn picked his Broncos as I picked San Francisco and off we went.

For a while we were exchanging points for points but I feel my mistake was to chose to kick instead of receive first, something I don’t normally do but decidedly trying to throw off an oblivious Shawn. At the end of the game Shawn ended up winning by ten or so points, intercepting me three times with Mobley whilst I intercepted him once.

With the second game on the Playstation completed I figured we were going to go for the decider but as the time was 12:30 a.m. and Shawn having brought along his parents’ car, we decided to head out for a drive. Figuring that Shawn probably only had the privilege of driving the car because he was working, I started to appreciate how favors in his family worked. Before leaving we got to talking about how much I write in my memoirs and how I would have any memory stored away dating back a couple of years.

Parakeets On Queen Street

Gathering that we were talking about my sleepless nights and how I can’t head out to Trivia night I decided to show something to Shawn that no one else would otherwise see. Turning on my computer to this month’s entry I briskly flicked down each page so that Shawn could get an idea of the extent that I write. Sitting there amazed at how thick in volume each entry was, he asked how I could handle so much literature and I knew he was probably in awe. Anyway, from that I turned off my computer and as I turned down Shawn’s lending of his Playstation to me indefinitely we headed off on our venture.

Decidedly, our first destination for the night would be to drive down Queen Street. On our journey Shawn and I were being our cocky selves, repeating what each of us said as if we were parakeets. There would be occasions when I would say something and when Shawn would ask me to repeat myself as he didn’t hear I would utter “Hmm, Hmm” nodding my head up and down vigorously All this entertaining had me asking the question of evolution and when we first started acting like the fools we were.

“It was probably when we started our first game of Gridiron” Shawn noted but I feel that it was even before then but just in a lesser extent. Having a huge laugh about our recognition that we sounded like vagrant parakeets in our repeatedly rewording sentences, we had more of a laugh realizing that Keith and especially Ralf hated it so much. Ralf used to tell Shawn how much he hated our continually repeating sentences and being larrikins but then Ralf would just join in anyway.

Keith also had his moments when he hated our bothersome behavior. Although, with Keith it was usually flicking his ears from the backseat or getting into a rephrasing match of sentences with Shawn in which we would find as much possible deviations for such a sentence. Just imagine my starting with “Keith’s getting tired of our constantly talking” in which Shawn would remark “You know, I think Keith’s getting tired of our constantly talking.

“Do you think Keith’s getting constantly tired of our talking” I would add to Shawn’s reply of “Our constantly talking is probably making Keith get tired”. It would just continue on with our rephrasing of the sentence structure until it finally pissed Keith off enough to say something else in which we would use that as our glutton for overly used punishment.

Nowhere To Go

Driving down Queen Street we had no real strategy for the night but we decided to try and head to Macarthur Square because I had reason to believe that the Movie Marathon was playing. Passing the front of Greater Union the doors were closed and the lights were off so we figured that there would be no justice in our getting out of the car. Our next destination was to head for Two Moon Junction in which we got a taste of the same treatment of a desolate location for our age group.

There were a heap of older people there and a lot of Philippine or Asian ladies and men. Making our way out we had no place else to go but as I was hungry and seeing Macdonald’s in Woodbine open this sounded like a good idea. Zipping through the drive-through I ordered a quarter pounder meal as Shawn done the same and heading to the first window we collected our food and decided to park. Having my DKNY look still happening with the blue lens glasses I would have been content to jump out of the car but there were no girlies to impress.

Parked At Maccas

Instead, seeing Lebs stacking around one or two cars in their group of Adidas infested junkies, I decided it would be best if we turned the nose of the car around so that we could view and laugh at the Lebs in action. Reversing into another spot that was half in view and half out of view because of a shroud of bushes we opened up our food and began our digestive consumption.

Glancing over at the Lebs whilst eating our food their try-hard hero status deserved a searing mention or two. The ball of humor started rolling when Shawn put on a Leb voice and uttered “Hey Osee, gimme your shoos” which translated would mean “Hey Aussie, give me your shoes”. The story behind this caption was that one day Redd was asked that very sentence by some Lebs at Macarthur Square in which he told them to fuck off and then ran. “Back then Redd was skinny” Shawn explained, “But now, Redd won’t need to run, he’ll hunt them down.”

Some more raillery and insults were shed upon the Lebs as Shawn remarked “There should be clubs that allow Lebs in with Adidas Pants, imagine the business they would get. They should call it Club Leb.” In addition, they should make a brand of car mags that were made by Adidas, possibly with three stripes running down the rim. “Macdonald’s looks like a zebra crossing with all the Lebs here,” I murmured taking another bite out of my burger. Earlier in the night when we had just acquired our meals we drove past one of the Lebs who knelt down and spewed on the ground, a great enticement for us to eat.

Shawn and I also reminisced upon our cutting the hot air balloon at Pizza Hut, throwing Santa off the roof of the same place and when Tatton had a dispute with Ralf when we threw eggs at each others car. This dispute however was a year after the episode, when Ralf wanted Tatton to apologize in which he did but he kept yelling because it wasn’t good enough to come so late. Granting our night together to memories of old we had a laugh when Shawn told me that Ralf and Tatton went to the City together after their argument as if the best of friends.

Our night at Macdonald’s lasted for as long as it took us to have something to eat and chat for a little while. Watching the Lebs was just derisive upon the sanity of mankind, hordes of the missing link were subject to our sight. Nevertheless, we made our way home soon after and as the time was nearing 2:30 p.m. we both decided it was time to head home for some sleep.

I’m not sure what time I got to sleep on Saturday night which turned into Sunday morning but pretty much everything has been documented from thence forth until the end of Sunday. All I have to write of now is Monday through to today and I should be fine with chronology. Finally, the bigger piece of the week is complete but with this weekend creeping towards us, I don’t think a late night tomorrow will extinguish this long tail that I have been chasing…
